It’s in these moments
It’s in these moments I wonder
Will I remember...
The tenderness of your voice and
The slant of the sun on your skin
The way the sand glistened as it flew from your clenched hands
How you’d say, oh ok, oh thank you
How fast your feet would shuffle down the boardwalk
How you’d cling to my body as we’d near the thunderous surf
The sound of No mommy, after asking if you would please walk
The cool wind, the ease of this spring compared to the depths of summer
Your golden hair, the tiny ponytail and useless hair clips
Your citrus bathing suit, so grateful it would last another season
Your daddy by my side, you look so good, he’d say
The silent prayer I'd hold close in these moments
to please remember, to please not forget
