How fast your feet would shuffle down the boardwalk 
How you’d cling to my body as we’d near the thunderous surf
The sound of No mommy, after asking if you would please walk 
The cool wind, the ease of this spring compared to the depths of summer 
Your golden hair, the tiny ponytail and useless hair clips 
Your citrus bathing suit, so grateful it would last another season 
Your daddy by my side, you look so good, he’d say 
The silent prayer I'd hold close in these moments
